I Dont Know If Its Been Mentioned Yet on Tumblr, But Collge Humor Has A TV Show on MTV

stokan:

Some years back the venerable Sam Reich called me up and asked me to be a part of a video he was shooting for a new website he was working for - collegehumor.com. I thought “isn’t that that site where they have videos of people drinking beer and farting?” But as I was an uber-fan of dutchwest (and of Mr. Reich himself) I said sure, why not. I had nothing to lose but my dignity and self-respect. So I trekked out to Barcade in Brooklyn to find a bare bones production with just Sam, Vinnie, a handheld camera, and two quiet-seeming guys, Dan and Jordan. I did my bit, left, and thought nothing else of it other than “wow, I’m terrible on camera” and “Sam seems way too good for that place but I guess we all gotta pay the bills somehow.” Little did I know that I was witnessing the birth of a new comedy empire. In retrospect it was like I had seen Gallagher smashing cantaloupes in Weehawken in 1979. A few tweaks and a few years later and College Humor would be set to rule the comedy world. Because that video became Street Fighter : The Later Years and collegehumor.com became, well, a site that has their own TV show premiering tonight on MTV. Yes, that MTV. It seems totally surreal to me and I’m sure infinity times more so for those involved. And I couldn’t be happier for them and more proud to have been, in my own microscopic and completely insignificant way, a part of it. It just proves those people wrong who said that if you give smart and talented people loads of money and unlimited creative freedom that nothing good would come of it. What did they know?

So congrats all. And best of luck. I’ll be watching. Proudly.
