Went running

Took a left out of the apartment over the Fiedler footbridge through rows of empty porta-potties towards the Hatch Shell. Ran through a State Police staging area, rows and rows of shiny Harleys, blue helmets and jackboots, EMTs lifting kids over Storrow barriers and ignoring hopelessly clogged traffic. Took a left onto the Longfellow bridge, weaving between doctors in lab coats heading for the Red Line and over into Cambridge, where it started to rain even though it was sunny. Ran down Memorial drive, still open for now, past camera nests adjusting their focus on the barges, hulking in the middle of the river and ringed by fire boats and then launches from the boathouses. Past MIT and several (or one?) large Indian families congratulating one of their kids, setting up photos and facing away from the Charles, with the Boston skyline framed in the background. Then left, up onto the Harvard bridge as the wind picked up, worn Smoots under my feet and the Citgo sign to my right, bright in the twilight. Took a left down the down back onto the esplanade, past the ducks and rows of speakers blasting POPs sound checks and WBZ bumpers wishing me a happy 4th.
